Similar festivals require participants to release the organising foundation, venue owners and sponsors from liability .

Amendments. The Organiser may update these Terms without prior notice. Your continued participation constitutes acceptance of any modifications. Participants in other festivals agree that passes and tickets may be confiscated if they violate rules .

3 Eligibility and Participant Obligations
Age and competency. You represent that you are at least 18 years old and in good health to participate in water‑sports. The Nationals water‑sports waiver requires participants to be at least 18 years old, in good health and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs . Minors must have a parent or legal guardian sign the registration form, and the guardian must accompany minors during all on‑water activities. The guardian accepts full responsibility for the minor’s safety.

Swimming ability and physical condition. You declare that you can swim and are physically fit to participate in paddle‑sport activities. You accept sole responsibility for determining whether you are sufficiently fit . You will not participate if you are pregnant, have heart or respiratory conditions, or any medical issue that could jeopardise your safety. You must notify the Organiser of any health condition and follow any instructions from medical personnel.

Prohibited substances. You agree not to consume alcohol or any illicit or prescription drug that could impair your ability before or during the Event . The Organiser reserves the right to refuse participation to anyone suspected of being under the influence.

Compliance with rules. You will comply with all Event rules, safety regulations and instructions from staff. Failure to follow rules may result in removal from the Event without refund. Participants must abide by rules and may be disqualified for any reason the organisers deem appropriate .

Conduct. You agree to treat others with respect. The Organiser prohibits harassment, discrimination or violence, similar to the code of conduct referenced in other sports waivers . Offensive language, disorderly behaviour, or unsafe actions may result in expulsion without refund. You will not bring weapons, fireworks or illegal substances to the Event.

Equipment use and care.

Personal equipment. You may bring your own paddle board or other gear, but you do so at your own risk. Participants may damage personal property including clothing and wearables. The Organiser is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to personal equipment, even if caused by staff or other participants.

Rental equipment. If you rent Equipment from the Organiser, you must return it in the same condition. The ESL & Organizers terms state that renters are responsible for any and all losses and damages to equipment while in their care and may be charged a damage deposit. The Organiser may similarly require a deposit and charge for repair or replacement of damaged equipment.

Care of venue. You will use facilities responsibly and leave no trace. You agree to reimburse the Organiser for any damage you or your guests cause to the venue, equipment or property.

4 Assumption of Risk
Inherent risks. Participation in paddle‑sports and outdoor events involves inherent and unforeseen risks. Risks such as collisions with other watercraft, injuries from waves and weather, equipment failure, underwater hazards and varying skill levels. Participation may result in personal injury (including death), property damage or economic loss. You recognise that these hazards exist and accept them.

Assumption of risks. You voluntarily and knowingly assume all risks, both known and unknown, including injury, death, illness (e.g., infectious diseases) and property damage. You understand that risks may arise from your own actions, the actions of others, equipment malfunction, or the negligent acts of the Released Parties.

Participation includes possible exposure to infectious diseases. You consent to receive first aid or medical treatment if the Organiser deems it necessary and agree to pay all associated costs.

5 Release, Waiver and Indemnity
Release of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release, waive and forever discharge the Released Parties from any and all claims, damages, losses and liabilities arising from or relating to your participation in the Event, including claims resulting from the negligence of the Released Parties. This includes claims for personal injury, death, property damage, loss or theft.

Indemnification. You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties against any claims brought by third parties that arise from your acts or omissions during the Event. For example, if you injure someone or damage property, you will be responsible for any resulting claims and costs.

Limitations. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for intentional or grossly negligent acts or for death or personal injury caused by the Released Parties, to the extent such exclusions are not allowed under Swiss law. Organisers are only liable for damages deliberately or grossly negligently caused by them, and that personal injuries outside of sports‑related risks cannot be excluded.

Insurance. The Organiser does not provide personal accident, medical or property insurance for Participants. You are strongly advised to have adequate insurance covering medical treatment, accident, disability and personal liability. FAQ – European SUP League Races

The European SUP League is an official league recognized by the European Surfing Federation.

At the end of the circuit:
• Official categories can obtain an official ranking certificate, validating:
• Final ranking position
• Status as League Champion

This certificate can be used for:
• Sporting validation
• Access to funding
• Scholarships
• Federation or institutional processes

→ This is not just a ranking—it is official recognition.

The league is open to any athlete, regardless of nationality, provided they:

  • Meet regulatory requirements
  • Hold a valid license or insurance
  • Participate in the required events to score ranking points

→ The ESL is designed as an international and open league.

The ESL rules are primarily based on the International Surfing Association (ISA) rules.

Adjustments have been made that are:
• Agreed with the European Surfing Federation
• Tested during the 2025 season
• Designed to improve competition, not break standards

The most relevant adjustment concerns the distance and format of the technical race.

This was decided after:

  • Discussions with the European Surfing Federation
  • Technical and organizational analysis
  • Real-world testing during the 2025 season

Because all stakeholders agree it is:

  • The most complete and understandable format
  • A mix of technique, tactics, explosiveness, and water reading
  • The format with the highest media potential
  • The one with Olympic projection potential

The validated 2025 format:

  • Avoids complex course setups
  • Is accessible across levels
  • Speeds up heats
  • Reduces downtime
  • Improves broadcast and spectator understanding

→ A visible format is a future-proof format.

• Lower physical strain during multi-race weekends
• Better recovery between disciplines
• Clearer competition structure
• Equal conditions across events

→ Protects athletes without lowering sporting standards.

Simple and transparent system:

• Clubs submit a list of all registered athletes per event
• Each athlete earns individual points
• Total points form the club ranking

This ranking:

• Rewards collective effort
• Values club engagement
• Recognizes clubs that travel and organize teams

→ Winning is about the club, not just one athlete.

The system includes:
• Discard results
• Progressive scoring
• Consistency weighting

Designed to:
• Avoid penalizing occasional absences
• Reward consistency
• Maintain season-long competitiveness

→ You compete for a league, not just one race.

Because at these ages the priority is:
• Learning
• Enjoyment
• Shared experience
• International interaction

Following discussions with brands like Sunova, Starboard, NSP, and Kokua:
• Excessive early competition distorts development
• Podium pressure appears too early
• The trend needs softening without removing competition

→ Racing remains, but the objective changes.

Key reasons:
• Greater equality
• More accessible equipment
• Safer
• Easier transport
• Lower logistical barriers
• More inclusive environment

Rigid boards remain essential for training—but events aim for openness and experience.

Special support includes:
• A pool of 14’ rigid boards
• Available paddles
• Reduced need for equipment transport

Priority system based on:
• Ranking
• Organizer-defined order

If multiple models exist:
• Athletes can choose what suits them best

→ The pool is an opportunity, not a limitation.
